One character that Chris comes across is Everett Ruess. Everett is similar to Chris in many ways. Everett is similar to Chris because at age 16 he went on his first solo trip spending most of the summer of 1930 in the wild hiking. Also Everret met a guy name Edward Weston who was charmed to see such young man to humor him. This is similar to Chris because Chris met a guy named Wayne which they grew to be very good friends just like Everett and Edward Ruess are becoming. Just like Chris Everett went to school long enough to get the diploma and then go back out to the wild. On the other hand Everett went to college but then dropped out because of his father’s lasting dismay. Everett would spend the rest of his meteoric life on the move, and living out of a backpack and sleeping in the dirt just like Chris lived his life this is why Chris and Everett are similar in the story. The next person that had a lot of similarity as Chris was Gene Rossellini. Gene as a young man was a very good athlete. Chris was interested in Gene because he told a news reporter if humans could live as our forbears. With the obsessive attention gene purged his life from native materials his own hands. Everett dined on roots, berries and seaweed hunted game just like Chris. At age 49 Gene Rossellini had his goal to walk around the world living own a back pack. His goal was to cover 18 to 27 miles a day 365 days a year. Though he never to reach his goal because they found him lying on the ground with a knife through his heart. They say it was self inflicted wound, which no one knows why he wanted to end his life. This is why Chris and Gene are similar because they were both people that wanted to live life on a backpack. ‘ Colton Flinner
